The Molten Record

Notice Anything Different? You Will.

Now that my website is all on its own, hurtling through the void that is the internet, I realized the whole thing is pretty barebones and tame. Which is perfect for an amateur with zero web development skills (me), but not great for a graphic designer with a love of customization (me).

So, over the next few months, I’m hoping to completely overhaul the look and feel of this thing, while keeping it completely navigable.

Say your fondest farewells to the simple serifed text, black-and-white layout, and occasional pops of color through yellow buttons. I’m going to fix this thing and make it beautiful.

…Eventually.

For now, thank you so much, Dad. This is a wonderful gift and I want to make sure I use it well.

For the sake of posterity, I thought I’d include what the old blog looked like, so that future changes can be properly appreciated/mourned.

This is the logo—considering I made it before I had any graphic design training, not too bad! Something that bothers me immensely about it is the off-kilter positioning of “The” on the T’s crossbar. But I like the rest of it!

The blog also had a white background, and used just one font:

This one, Source Serif Pro.

I still use that one for poetry or posts that need a little bit more professionalism to them, but I’m also hoping to branch out for further posts.

The only other color besides black and white was the same yellow that I’m using now.

If I ever get properly HTML-empowered, I’ll try to make fancier and more customized theme changes in the future. As of now, I’ve just tried to add more color, legibility, and personality. A new logo is in the works!

Be happy with the off-kilter T bar. It’s what makes the square square with the letters around it. Quite artistic, actually, which comes naturally to you.

Well, if you like it then maybe I’ll have it stick around in some way! Thank you 🙂
