The Molten Record

Only the Devil

Only the devil draws lines in the sand
Dealing with love as supply and demand
Points fingers to blame—there’s no hole in his hand—
And whispers, there’s a war to be won

Only the devil digs trenches to fill
Makes no-man’s-land from truth and goodwill
Stains the ground red—he has no blood to spill—
And urges, it’s you or it’s them

Only the devil feeds off the divide
Gorges himself on our hatred and pride
Calls it all justice—there’s no spear in his side—
And tells us, God wants this from you.

An LDS church was shot up in Michigan, killing several children. The next day, Mormons set up a GoFundMe for the shooter’s family. Hatred is never holy.

Sorrow, pain and loss can leave us searching for reasons, answers, relief and maybe someone to blame. When we are thus unsettled or unsure, we can be more vulnerable to Satan’s lies. He uses anger and thoughts of retribution to promote his enmity and block out the Spirit, drawing us away from the Source of peace and healing we need.

As we act to return good for evil, Satan’s power is diminished. Our greatest weapon is not a weapon at all, but an all-powerful defense. As we return love for hate, we grow in strength, peace, and healing — something the devil will never have.

Couldn’t have said it better. We would all do better to care about each other 🙂
